MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK RUSSIA: ECO-TRANSFORMATION
APRIL 16
This season, MBFW Russia starts some initiatives in the field of sustainable fashion – these will be presented during the new season in the Museum of Moscow on April 19 through 24. Vtoroe Dykhanie Fund, the largest Russia's non-profit that redistributes and recycles unwanted textile, and in collaboration with them Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia opens an unwanted garment collection point. Russian upcycle (secondary use) brands will use them in their future collections.

To take part in this campaign you can come to the Museum of Moscow (Zubovsky Boulevard 2) on April 20 through 24, 12 noon to 9 p.m., and leave your unwanted clothes in a special collection point – Russian fashion council and Vtoroe Dykhanie Fund will have it open in the Museum's courtyard. You don't need an invitation to do that – anyone can visit the collection point and donate their garments. Some of the campaign participants will be awarded with invitations to sustainable fashion shows at #MBFWRussia – for this season or the next one.

This season, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia is participated by 14 Russian designer brands that follow sustainable development guidelines – upcycle, recycle, slow fashion, zero waste, etc. They are marked with special signs on the green schedule of the Fashion Week.

Old and unwanted clothes collected April 20 through 24 will be granted a second chance at MBW catwalks in Autumn 2021. Workers of Vtoroe Dykhanie Fund will sort the clothes collected for Russian upcycle brands to use these in the future collections. Sustainable brands VINA and RigRaiser will present their new collections based on the garments donated by visitors of the Fashion Week in October 2021.

Whatever clothes won't be used in fashion collections will be handed over to Vtoroe Dykhanie. Please, make sure to check requirements to clothes accepted here: https://vtoroe.ru/modno-sdat/chto-mozhno-sdavat/.

Besides, starting with this season, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia abandons its usual practice of making branded tops and hoodies for volunteers and workers of the Arrangements Committee, which are 300+ people. RigRaiser will make special uniform for the team helping with preparation and holding of the Fashion Weeks. Second hand clothes will be used to make (customize) these uniforms. The MBFW Russia Arrangements Committee introduces sustainable practices for the major Russian event in the field of fashion. The objective followed by RigRaiser is to ensure eco-balance on Earth. To make all their clothes, the brand uses upcycling/recycling technologies.

"Sustainable transformation of the Fashion Week marks its evolution, requisited by the past pandemic year. Consumption patterns as well as attitude to the environment and lifestyle are changing not only because conventional supply chains have broken. Sustainable fashion had already been strong before coronavirus broke out, but during the pandemics the situations reconsidered, and all the processes went faster. Two years ago, MBFW Russia decided to quit real fur on the catwalks. Times of reasonable consumption are already here. We're happy to support emerging Russian brands that are into sustainable fashion," says Alexander Shumsky, President of Russian Fashion Council and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia, Co-founder of Fashion Fund.

"For the first time ever, we are going to present a collection made of the garments delivered by our guests. Things that used to dust in your wardrobe will become a piece of contemporary art. Wouldn't it be great to see something that was yours but wasn't wanted any more? I'm positive that this case will engage anyone and help people be more reasonable and careful about clothes. Throughout the project, RigRaiser speaks out against depersonalization of clothes, and we're ready to visually assure you that garments from your wardrobe can look very different and be unique. Our collaboration with Vtoroe Dykhanie Fund for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia is a breakthrough and yet another proof that we and you can transform the industry on our own. It is nice that RigRaiser will set trends in the Russian fashion sector and art industry," cheers Anna Lekontseva, designer and founder of RigRaiser brand.

"We're happy that fashion can be sustainable and that MBFW Russia supports secondary use and reasonable consumption ideas. Engaging upcycle brands to projects that large will help to promote the reasonable consumption concept. As a brand, we feel important to demonstrate that upcycled garments and accessories can perfectly fit into everyday wardrobe and offer an alternative to fast fashion," share Viktoria Pirogova and Anastasia Lipyagovskaya, founders of VINA brand.

On April 22, which is Earth Day, Mercedes-Benz will present a video to support the global strategy for all Mercedes-Benz plants switching to renewable energy sources. Mercedes-Benz Rus JSC supports the Mercedes-Benz global strategy for introduction of efficient and energy-saving sustainable practices in all the company's fields of activities.
